Families planning to take a caravan holiday this summer have been advised to check they are covered by insurance.
Writing for the Daily Mail, Liz Philips noted that motorhome and caravan holidays are becoming increasingly popular as Brits look for ways to take a break without splashing too much cash.
However, she advised people to prepare before packing up and heading off.
"Although you don't have to insure a caravan, it's advisable to buy cover. It's a common misconception that your car insurance will cover your caravan; that only applies to damage caused to someone else's vehicle," Ms Philips commented.
She added that installing security systems can often reduce the price of premiums.
Community safety manager Trevor Bracken last month warned caravanners to protect themselves against thieves after a six-berth caravan worth more than £10,000 was stolen in the village of Whittlesey.
Speaking to the Cambs Times, he said owners could consider installing tracking equipment.
