Male drivers are cleaner than their female counterparts when it comes to looking after their cars.
Caravan insurance customers may be interested to learn that research carried out by car retailer Autoquake found that 56 per cent of women regularly leave their car unwashed for six months or more, compared to 44 per cent of men.
Female motorists are also more likely to pay someone to clean their car.
Autoquake chief executive Dermot Haplin said allowing your vehicle to get too dirty is not a good idea.
"Nasty deposits like birdlime can damage a car's paintwork, while salted roads in winter can corrode alloy wheels. This kind of cosmetic damage can hurt the value of your car when you come to sell it on," he explained.
Mr Haplin added that
caravan insurance customers and other road users could also land themselves in trouble with the law if their registration plates are unreadable because of dirt.
A poll by Kwik-Fit earlier this year revealed that female drivers are more likely to have their car heating blasting than males, with 50 per cent of couples regularly arguing about the temperature of their vehicle.
